Ruffle Throw

I braved a twin size ruffle throw + two pillow shams [a la Pottery Barn Teen] and survived.

I could probably live the rest of my life and never desire to sew another ruffle again… well, probably not, but not in the near future will it EVER happen. Hah.

Pillows

PB Teen can’t hold me down. There were a lot of steps and a lot of time needed to complete the project, I would say a good 12 hours were sucked up over three days to finish what I had started.

Ruffle Throw StepsI purchased two flat sheets from Target, one twin size and one queen size. I cut the queen sheet into ~6″ strips, ironed and hemmed all the sides that weren’t going to be ruffled, ruffle the unhemmed side with my handy dandy sewing machine, pinned each ruffle to the twin sheet and sewed and sewed and sewed. Then I did it ALL over with the pillow cases, however, I used the remaining fabric from the queen sheet that were not used on the twin throw, easy peasy!

Before I got about 5 hours into the project I had the thought, “This is SO easy, I could sell these!” I have changed my mind.

Unless you beg and I really love you… maybe I will think about it.

It is one thing to dream. It is another to catch a dream.

Dream Catcher - Frugal Stepmom

Obtain a dream.

Live the dream.

Dream Catcher - Frugal Stepmom

I made this beautiful Lakota [aka. dream catcher] out of leather, ribbon, turquoise beads and feathers for our newly painted bedroom. I am hoping it will catch all of the poorly narrated dreams I am currently having and producing better sleeping memory’s… those that do not include water?

Dream Catcher Collage - Frugal Stepmom

I found such joy and creativity in making this dream catcher that I am contemplating making more and selling them on SweetgumWay . Check back soon, check back often, you just never know where my wild hair will take me!

James Avery Craftsman Silversmith

If there is one thing every [southern] girl must have, it is a charm bracelet to commemorate all of our special journey’s in life. I received my first charm bracelet from my parents when I was a kid, I was SO excited; I remember my Dad being SO proud of himself for picking the best charms for me. On our recent trip to Washington, DC and Virginia, my Sweet C and I both picked out charms at Colonial Williamsburg to add to our collection.

My sister brought to my attention that now through August 31, James Avery is giving you their Forged Link Charm Bracelet with any two charm purchase!

I have picked out a few new additions to connect to my current bracelet, which only has a running shoe at the moment [Thanks Patti + Lonnie!]:

James Avery Purchase

Let me know which charms you choose to get with your FREE bracelet!

PS – I realize this post is RIGHT above my post on not wanting to spend more money, because I’m so OVER it. I still am, but as #5 states, Christmas is RIGHT around the corner and Santa can always use a little idea boost ;)

My Sweet C, Grandma and I were cruising though the furniture store one day when C saw it, her room’s inspiration…

Swanky BedMy, oh my, does she have serious taste.

What to do about a 13 year old who’s eyes dazzle at a $2,800 bed… besides the obvious, “Ummm, no”? Recommend finding a much less expensive tufted headboard and bedazzle it ourselves, of course!

My Sweet C usually always comes home with a sweet twist or braid in her hair that looks lovely and I want to do it too. I have always loved trying new styles with my hair, most unsuccessful, but still, I have fun.

Today, to refresh my skills on the french braid and new love for side pony tails [hello 3rd grade, just don't bring back shoulder pads... please], I donned a side french braid pony tail for the first time, I dare say, EVER.

My inspiration:

My outcome:
