Every year [that we have lived in our house, at least] we have participated in the National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger food drive benefiting Feeding America. The Feeding America charity is best known for it’s diligence in providing food for those who are food insecure [at or below poverty levels].

Did you know that one in six Americans go hungry every day, sometimes days or a week even?

Did you know that there are over 14 million children served by Feeding America [read: there are over 14 million hungry children in America]?

Did you know that Texas is one of the top 5 states with the highest population of food insecure families?

Do you have one of those family’s that loves to mess with you, in a good way? I do, big time!

Yesterday [Easter] was yet another day of driving for the H family, it seems like that is all we do nowadays. Easter and Christmas consist of the same commuting routine because of their distance from home base; 10am to my parents for brunch then B’s parents for dinner and home by 8pm.

So, yesterday, we headed to my parents at 10am to have fried bacon and AMAZING homemade/handmade cinnamon rolls [a la DJ Grumpy Pants, aka. my baby brother]; I would have caught a shot for you all, but once the icing was down those babies were gone! Johnny and I worked on the blog [updating the widgets and viewing 404's we wish we would have come up with] and B, Mom and Dad watched some of the Astros game and some of the inside of their eye-lids.

We trotted out to my in-laws around 2pm, another 50 miles in the bucket… but, on the way there we realized B’s phone was missing. SO, I called back and left a voice message at my parents to check the couch where the siesta took place and the countertop where the snacks were loaded. No biggie, we’re sure it was left there somewhere… and then I realized I left my camera too, what a big fat bummer.

So, no pictures of my sweet little muffin on her first actual Easter egg hunt. She was pretty cute and loves me [and chocolate] dearly, just saying. We chowed on Easter enchiladas and fajitas which were pretty good since I was SUPER full after the first go-round but went back for seconds [the scale did not lie last night!]; my sweet niece was supposed to rise early to make spring rolls, but they did not make… thank goodness! Oink Oink.

Brown Chicken Eggs

Hypothetically, this might have happened:

Husband: Hey Babe, I’m Home!

Wife: HEY! How was practice? Did all the kids produce and do what they were told?

Husband: Yea, they were alright.

Wife: Cool.

Husband: One of the Dad’s has a daughter who is raising rabbits and chickens for FFA; he gave me and another coach each three dozen brown eggs…

Wife: REALLY!? Sweet! I bet they have tons of bunny babies now!

Husband: Yea, please don’t tell our daughter!

Wife: Oh I won’t, bunny’s are pretty nasty… but kinda cute.

Husband: Yea. But, [dramatic pause]what do you do with brown eggs?

Multi Colored Chicken Eggs

Here’s to your silly Friday! May your weekend be blessed… like we are with brown eggs!

It is with deep regret and profound sadness that I inform you of the passing of Kroger Double/Triple coupons in Houston and surrounding areas. Double/Triple Coupons were a cherished friend, and will be sorely missed.

The bottom line is that Kroger is trying to find a new business strategy with the introduction of e-coupons, gas and prescription rewards and other “valued customer” incentives… Yea, that’s what they say.

If you are distraught over this loss, head on over to the Kroger Couponers Facebook page and voice your opinion, find the address to mail a concerned/complaint letter or receive the phone number to call the corporate headquarters and say, “Hey! What’s up with that?! I thought you loved me?”

It looks like Randall’s will be the only grocery store [in my neck of the woods] to offer double/triple coupons; however, they already limit to only one double/triple per coupon item [ex. Three $0.35 coupons with the same bar code for Pillsbury Toaster Strudel will only triple to $1.05 once, the other two remain $0.35 face value].

It’s a sad day in Frugal Kingdom, but we will hold strong and be victorious! We don’t let the grocery store hold us down!

You can go here to read all of the details from Kroger.

BASEBALL SEASON is FINALLY HERE!!

Today is the Houston Astros 2011 Home Opener – can you take a guess at where I am right now?

This morning started out with delicious chirozo and egg tacos at Laredo Taqueria. This place is a.m.a.zing, if you haven’t been here, you haven’t lived.

Now, we are hanging out, waiting for Fan Fest to start. I am enjoying the company of my favorite second-family members and quite possibly enjoying and adult beverage. HEY, it’s Friday and its 5 o’clock somewhere, right? Don’t judge ;)

Here are a few pics from last year of my fam and me enjoying ourselves.

Happy Friday Peeps and LET’S GO ASTROS!

I parused through Hobby Lobby this week, scouring the shelves for finds that had to come home with me.

I stumbled upon Rustoleum Cobalt Blue and Rustoleum American Accents London Gray spray paint at 75% off, cha-ching! I also found a few great fabric squares to make memo boards for $0.75 and $1.00, cha-ching!

And then I happened upon this:

Fat Napkin Holder

WHY would anybody purchase a napkin holder that says “Fat”? I had to take the picture because I just couldn’t believe it; I had to have proof of the Fat napkin holder. I realize after further investigation that it says “Eat”, but first impressions are the ones that count – and I am NOT buying a Fat napkin holder.

Imagine your friends coming over and seeing it, they would be all, “Hmm, why do you have a napkin holder that says “Fat”? You’re not fat, are you poking fun at us because we are slightly big-boned and like to cook and eat with lots-o butter?” You would have to explain to them that it actually says “Eat”, because you are encouraging healthier living by using a clean paper napkin instead of the sleeve of your shirt or the bottom portion of your jeans… Can you imagine? Embarassing!

Anyways – I heart Hobby Lobby right now because they have a lot of broken and left behind frames for 90% off, I hope to get sweetgum way well stocked before AlternaCraft, May 15 [post/invite to come soon].

Enjoy the rest of your day friends, it is almost Friday!

C and I have been in the past and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves with ice cream, games, fire-fighting exhibits and more games. Unlike the past, however, this year is taking on a whole new flare - “A Taste of Louisiana” – where there will be bugs galore [which I happen to like… a lot], live music [see the line-up below], and many vendors to satisfy your hours of parusing and lolly-gagging with your friends and family.

[Side note: I love the early 90's country, that is when my BFF and I would sing our hearts out to MC, Alan Jackson, The Tractors and that one guy... Billy Ray Cyrus?! I heard Tracy Lawrence, Texas Tornado, on the radio just this morning and remembered the time we got to go to the rodeo with her family and we had a blast walking through the carnival and we even got shirts! Oh, it was truly amazing! Too bad I don't have a pictures to share of us at this time... too. bad.]

Check out CyFest.com for more information and like CyFest on Facebook – they are doing a giveaway if they reach 1,000 fans!

B + Me hope to see you all out there!

PSA: Please remember sunblock if you are heading out Saturday or Sunday!

Update: As it turns out, this is apparently “not a duck”… but it sure does walk and quack like one. This is not the Annual Cy-Fest that is put on by Lone Star College, this is actually the Annual CyFest [you see, there is no hyphen?!] that is put on for profit by Acadiana Group… So, I hope you aren’t confused, sometimes hypens can do that to you. yea, hyphens.
