Remember back in the day when we first got our sweet Dakota and we were still trying to find what fits her style… and what doesn’t? Remember the tattoos I received from one of our tests? Well, today, my friends, I have another test that has been long outlived.

I had my ganglion cyst expunged.

What does that have to do with this pretty girl?

You see, we run… A LOT… and I get tired of holding her leash in a fist, so I moved it to my wrist, easy to maneuver and hold in place without having to run with a solid fist the whole time. Runners, you understand, right? As it turns out, this is a bad idea to lead your pup in this manner and will cause trauma to your wrist if a squirrel or cat runs by and you are not ready for the jolt.

So, I’ve had this baby since before our Ironman in Austin, at least 2 months. I was going to add a picture of the before, but I didn’t take one because it hurt so bad after I got it shrunk down to the size I thought it wouldn’t hurt anymore… but I was wrong. You can look it up if you want, some of them are PRETTY nasty.

But here is my after shot:CystMy Dr. numbed it with lidocane [which set my wrist on fire... GIRL ON FIRE, yall] then used a 16 gauge needle to try and suck out the goo… but that didn’t work so we worked together like it was the mother of all pimples. It was AWESOME! Nothing like two grown women going at a pimple, right? You’re welcome for the visual, its burned in my brain too.

So, if ever you need suggestions on pet rearing when it comes to leashes, I feel I am well qualified to help you out. Also, when it comes to tetanus shots and other 16 gauge needles, I’m you’re gal.

PS – My daughter has been getting at me to “just get that nasty thing off” for the last 2 weeks, so I sent her the able “selfie”. Her response “Such a sad selfie, but yay! No more nasty bump.” <3

Today, I went to get a pack of M&M’s from the candy drawer and this is what I opened up to:

I am SO sad. All of my Hershey with Almond down the trash bag… and the Hershey kisses and the tootsie rolls. WHAT A WORLD!!

I sent the pic to our amazing exterminator, Jeff at Superior Pest [281-753-2677], and he has verified that the teeth marks are from mice and not Anole lizards as I wished, haha.

I know it has happened within the last week because my Sweet C went to the drawer just last Friday for some gum to chew without any eyebrows raised.

This is what Dak think’s about the whole situation after I’ve texted B and C the pictures incriminating the mice who encroached our glorious candy space. This is exactly why C and I have been polling for a cat for the past year, no mouse would have gotten away with this with a cat in the house!

So… If you find some great deals on candy… Let me know!

Today, my friends, I turn the big 3-0.

Tomorrow my BF does too, so I’m not too sad… today ;) <3 you SLM!

Taste Of Texas Dinner

To celebrate, B, my Sweet C, and I went to the Taste of Texas to eat beef galore last night. We are taking it easy today with an orthodonist appointment and possibly a trip to Trader Joe’s, but tomorrow it will be HOMEMADE fettuchini alla my baby brother and the rest if my somewhat crazy familia. We’re English and Irish, but I can’t make my annunciation come across in text, so I chose Spanish… Spain is up there by England and Ireland.

One of my favorite things about my birthday is that I get a lot of FREE meals and snacks… who doesn’t turn down a free snack!?

Gringo’s – Join the El Club to receive a FREE Presidente Entree for your birthday! Also, for signing up you receive a FREE queso! AND on top of all that greatness, each month the Tex Mex Tribune comes out with at least one special freebie

Benihana – Join The Chef’s Table to receive a $30 certificate for your birthday! Last year, B and I went, I ordered a full entree and he ordered fried rice and our total was $16 after tip!

CVS - Register your CVS ExtraCare card to receive an ECB (usually $3) on your birthday.

Sonic – Join the Sonic Cruiser’s Club to receive a free Creamslush, tator tots or drink of your choosing on your birthday!

Taco Cabana – Sign up for the TC Fanatics to receive a free meal on your birthday!

I may or may not have already utilized all of these freebies… but that is neither here nor there.

The H family, along with two other families, learned how to ski [and snowboard] this Christmas!

If you ever plan to take a trip to Winter Park, Colorado. You must look up Winter Park Lodging, we stayed at Timber Ridge Lodge which had more than enough space for 8 people… and heated floors!

Also, the city of Fraser is about 4 miles away from Winter Park and it has the best pizza at Elevation Pizza [try the Adam Bomb] AND the best snow-tubing hill at Colorado Adventure Park.

Did you do anything exciting for Christmas?

Conversations With C

Last Saturday it was raining and I needed to run errands, so everybody hopped in the car and helped out. Ace Hardware for fertilizer [it's time to winterize, weed, and fungicide friends], Kohl’s for C’s bath mats, Sonic for Cherry Limeades and cheese sticks,  exploring model homes in a new master planned community [design ideas, y'all], Michael’s for Halloween/fall crafts and FINALLY Best Buy to purchase the Lion King on Blu-ray.

[After returning home]

C: I have so many things to do tonight, four things.

A: Oh yea? You’re a busy lady. What are you going to do?

C: I have to make my house and then eat dinner, make cake balls and the we’re going to watch the Lion King.

A: Wow! What’s for dinner? [We both already knew it was going to be my yummy mac and cheese because my recipe was sitting on the counter Friday after school.]

[Making Dinner]

C: I love Mac and Cheese.

A: I know you do, that’s why I make it all the time.

C: I think everybody should be given your recipe for mac and cheese when they are born… like, along with their birth certificate. It is delicious and everybody should have the recipe because it makes them feel good.

 A: Thanks babe!

Here’s the recipe [I am not sure where I got it from about a year ago, so if it is yours, let me know!]

“C Approved” Mac and Cheese [Serves 8-12]

Bread Crumb Topping:
2 tbsp. unsalted butter
¾ cup panko bread crumbs
1 tsp. dried parsley
Salt and pepper

Pasta and Cheese Sauce:
1 lb. pasta shapes
6 tbsp. unsalted butter
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp. dry mustard
¼ tsp. cayenne pepper
6 tbsp. all-purpose flour
2¼ cups low-sodium chicken broth
3½ cups milk
1 lb. Colby jack cheese, shredded
8 oz. extra sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
Ground black pepper

  • Preheat the oven to 400˚ F.
  • Bring a large pot of salted water to boil. Add the pasta to the water and cook just until it begins to soften, about 5 minutes. Drain the pasta and leave in the colander.
  • Bread crumb topping - Melt the butter in a medium skillet over medium heat. Add in the panko and cook, stirring frequently, until the bread crumbs are a light golden brown. Remove from the heat and stir in the parsley. Set aside to cool.
  • Return the empty pasta pot to medium-high heat and melt the butter. Stir in the garlic, dry mustard, and cayenne, cooking just until fragrant, about one minute. Whisk in the flour and cook, stirring constantly, until golden, about 1 minute. Whisk in the chicken broth and milk and continue to heat, stirring frequently, until the mixture bubbles and thickens slightly, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from the heat and stir in the cheeses, whisking until completely melted. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir the drained pasta into the cheese sauce.
  • Pour the pasta and cheese mixture into a 9 x 13″ baking dish [or two 9" square baking dishes if serving 4, you can freeze/save the other dish for later]. Sprinkle with the bread crumb topping. Bake 30 minutes, until the sauce is bubbling and the bread crumbs are golden brown.

We like to enhance our Mac experience with crescent rolls to sop up the remaining cheese sauce… if there is any ;)

P.S. Here is the house C built. Isn’t it magnificent?

C Halloween House

P.S.S. We love the Lion King right now, I am a big fan of Rafiki because he wacks Simba on the head and said “Who cares? It’s in the past!”

P.S.S.S. There are A LOT more “likes” in this conversation, I spared you, you’re welcome.

SOLD OUT Love Worth Fighting For

Tonight, my handsome man and I are headed out to a SOLD OUT Love Worth Fighting For event, hosted by KSBJ, and I am excited!

The event features speaker, and my 90′s sitcom crush, Kirk Cameron, and singer Warren Barfield, who will encourage and pour out their love to hundreds of “fighting” couples.

I cannot wait to share with you what we learn as a couple and as individuals. You can never grow TOO strong as either, right?

P.S. We will be sitting next to my BF and her hubby, so that makes this night even more special. Two couples, fighting for what is right and enjoying the presence and healing from God himself. Cool, huh?

S and Me 2007

P.S.S. If you wouldn’t mind, we would appreciate your prayers for open hearts and open minds. We are both at odds with a struggle or two within our family dynamics and would enjoy the peace and mercy of answered prayers! <3

Ruffle Throw

I braved a twin size ruffle throw + two pillow shams [a la Pottery Barn Teen] and survived.

I could probably live the rest of my life and never desire to sew another ruffle again… well, probably not, but not in the near future will it EVER happen. Hah.

PB Teen can’t hold me down. There were a lot of steps and a lot of time needed to complete the project, I would say a good 12 hours were sucked up over three days to finish what I had started.

Ruffle Throw StepsI purchased two flat sheets from Target, one twin size and one queen size. I cut the queen sheet into ~6″ strips, ironed and hemmed all the sides that weren’t going to be ruffled, ruffle the unhemmed side with my handy dandy sewing machine, pinned each ruffle to the twin sheet and sewed and sewed and sewed. Then I did it ALL over with the pillow cases, however, I used the remaining fabric from the queen sheet that were not used on the twin throw, easy peasy!

Before I got about 5 hours into the project I had the thought, “This is SO easy, I could sell these!” I have changed my mind.

Unless you beg and I really love you… maybe I will think about it.

Ever have one of those days that the devil creeps in and steals your joy for a moment?

Then you remember the time you went help you brother or sister move something and they got hurt and you couldn’t help but laugh and laugh and laugh?

Growing up you just don’t understand the concept that you’re actually going to be friends one day and enjoy eachother’s company. You don’t understand the process until it is complete[ish].

I share these thoughts because I was just looking for a photo to add to my brother’s contact and this is what I chose:

Soft Kitty

Exhibit A: Soft Kitty

Here, you see a picture from last Easter when I accidentally left my camera at my parent’s house. Now, every time he calls or sends me an email I will see this and I will laugh because I think this picture is awesome and it makes me laugh.

In the end, Don’t let the devil steal your Joy and Always find something to make you smile!

What makes you smile?

I found a lovely typography print on Pinterest yesterday in my lonely state, thanks for your prayers!

A Parent's Promise by Joel Felix I am not your friend—I am your parent. I will stalk you, flip out on you, lecture you, drive you insane, be your worst nightmare and hunt you down when needed, because I love you. When you understand that, I will know you're a responsible adult. You will never find someone who loves, prays, cares and worries about you more than me. This is my promise to you."

A Parent’s Promise by Joel Felix

It Reads:

“I am not your friend – I am your parent.

I will stalk you, flip out on you, lecture you, drive you insane, be your worst nightmare and hunt you down when needed, because I love you.

When you understand that, I will know you’re a responsible adult. You will never find someone who loves, prays, cares and worries about you more than me.

This is my promise to you.”

Do you think Joel would make this into wallpaper?

Trying to be the good balance of a stepmom/parental unit in our household, but this past weekend the boundaries were crossed and I had to be, what might seem to some, the “bad guy”. I am not Lady Tremaine. It is heavy on my heart that I needed to make the lines clear to my Sweet C.

An amazing summer with our Sweet C ended with the last three days being so difficult all because of a silly pair of jeans. We were so many steps ahead, and because “we” couldn’t communicate, we are so many steps behind. I am not lady Tremaine.

It was perfect timing that I was able to read I Corinthians 13 in my quiet time this weekend, God’s timing is impeccable. I love this girl so much, but God loves her so much more.

We need your prayers. A lot of them. Prayers for my baby to learn from this and grow. Prayers for me to know that I am a work in progress and God is perfect and He is taking care of our hurting hearts.

I would love to hear from you too, if you are hurting today, I would love to pray with you!
