We were at a baseball tournament a few weekends back in La Porte when I noticed one of the little brother’s was not hanging around, building a fort out of dirt or making a tee-pee out of tree branches. I asked his mother about him, because I don’t have a kid on the team and I enjoy watching his ingenuity.  He was with his Grammy, not because he didn’t want to be there for his big brother or because he friends were not there, but simply for the fact that Grammy is a sucker for her sweet baby boy and will not tell him, “No”. That is when I remembered Anita Renfroe’s “Momisms”.

First, as a step-mother to the sweetest, most delightful pre-teen [she turned 12 just yesterday ::tear::] of all ages, this video comes in handy when the going gets tough and the tough take cover.

Then, you [and I] grow up and our children have their own kids, and the tough come out of hiding just for the sheer enjoyment of giving these sweet and innocent grand-babies whatever they want, and kicking the Momism’s to the curb.

TGIF Friends!

And PS – I wont be out of hiding for another good 30 years, so let me know how the whole Grandma thing works out for you!

If you know me, even a little smidgen, you know that I think economics is fun [Crazy, I know]. I enjoy the ins and outs of the meaning of supply and demand and cost-benefit analysis. What I really enjoy about economics are the seemingly silly and disconnected topics, like those introduced in Freakonomics by Levitt and Dubner and subsequently, their second title, SuperFreakonomics. Who really cares about the economics of a birth name, what teachers and sumo wrestlers have in common, how a street walker is like a department store Santa or how hurricanes, heart attacks and highway deaths are similar? Me!

So, when I saw this month’s free audio book download from ChristianAudio.com, I jumped on it.

The Next Story Tim Challies

The Next Story: Life and Faith After the Digital Explosion by Tim Challies is [essentially] the economics of the “digital explosion” on our world and person as we know it, cool! Here are some questions, that will be answered in this selection, to peek your enthusiasm:

My husband is not very fond of reading books because he gets distracted by the non-movement, so he turns to audio books whenever they are available.

Luckily for him, ChristianAudio.com has a special FREE audio book available for download through the end of each month.

This month’s title is The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom – her memoir of a period of deep hostility and her love for people in which God has made unique and to be cherished. In a time when we are so divided by who we are and what we believe, I think this is a great tale of putting aside differences to help another human in need; because of the begining and the end, we are never any different or better than another person - we are exactly who we are made to be.

Happy Reading Listening Friends!

Our mantel has been a sore spot for a while now. We just do not know what to do with it. The room is not as large as the height suggest, so it is hard to imagine what to put in the space… besides absolutely nothing.

We tried painting the wall a light steel blue color and adding canvases [which were supposed to be painted with a chosen design] to draw the eye upward. A focal point, maybe. The room [and house] is just not large enough for this kind of detail and the color was way too cold for the space.

Before:

So, we repainted the wall a darker grey with a hint of brown, the color looks amazing and it actually makes the wall look even taller, but in a much better way…  Now we are left with a “what to do with the space” issue.

We have floating shelves in the entry way that B has been threatening to demolish as soon as Mom isn’t looking. He got his wish last night, all of the shelf dwellers made their way to the mantle, a more stable situation for all involved. Especially for my Father-In-Law’s service flag; that bad boy is really heavy!

After:

It is still pretty simple, but we like it.

PSA: Thank God and a service[wo]man for setting and keeping you FREE. The ultimate Frugal find!
