Brown Chicken EggsMy Mom has been going crazy with information on genetically modified foods [GM foods or GMOs]. She is concerned that we are being sterilized as a civilization;  mind, body, just take it all. One of the fun things we like to do is cruise the local farmer’s markets for fun and interesting fruits, veggies and pure cane Cokes ;) Not only does it boost our local economy, but it also ensures that we grow a relationship with those who grow our natural foods and understand the importance of healthy food choices, beginning with the seed.

Spring is upon us and that means glorious amounts of new fresh food crops will be loaded into the local fresh markets. Sometimes these foods are a little bit more expensive than your chain grocery stores, but you are paying for care attention of food  crops that the grocery stores just don’t put to heart.

Dont know where you closest farmer’s market, meat market or fresh food restaurant is? Check out this cool site: http://www.localharvest.org/ You can put in your zip code and find everything around you - online stores, farms, CSA, farmer’s markets, restaurants, grocery/coops, wholesale and meat processors. Cool, right?

I’m most excited to dive into fresh cucumbers, tomatos and herbs galore! What are your favorite spring items from the market?

If you would like to find out more about GM foods, check out these resources:

PS – I heard on KSBJ just this morning that a scientist is working on a mutated organism that will be “hamburger of the future”, blech!

We have a Monsanto plant not far from our house. Yuk. We also noted that Walmart now carries “product” that is a substitute for peanut butter. You know what? I believe in one God, one Creator. I believe that HE made all of the natural things around us, complete and ready to be eaten if we would only use it as He intended instead of messing with it and saying that there are things to be improved upon. We are playing with fire in that, all we as human beings can do is “experiment” with the things He provided for us. Most often, we do not discover the terrible effects of our “experiments” until after the damage is done. We really are like sheep. Very dumb. :) Anyway, I agree with your post. We should support those who are trying to do things that are safer for people to consume/use. I would like to say that I don’t get why people mess with things, but I do.

I belong to a seed swappers group on FB, and your mom provided us with a link to read your page. Thanks for posting!

I cannot agree with you more. I know I take the easy street when in a hurry, but I would like to think [most of the time] I am providing good and wholesome foods as He has given us, like you say. I try not to shop at Wal-Mart for food items… unless it’s Snapple, they have the best price on the 6 packs!
