You know how life just happens and you don’t make it to the grocery store to pick up bread, your office is tore up from the floor up for over a week because painting is REALLY stupid, and the dog smells like she rolled over two dead snakes? That’s my life right now.

I know the days are starting to get longer, but geez, where does the time go when you’re just so busy?

Last week we moved everything out of our home office to put down new flooring and paint. That was last Wednesday… It doesn’t look too promising to be finished by tomorrow. The ceiling still needs painted and I think I have talked B into making our new desks to match the new feeling [Dale is moving in!] I guess we need to get a move on, C can’t really sleep on top of shelving and blinds, which are neatly placed on her never made bed. Which brings me to an observation – is it just my kid or what is up with not putting the flat sheet back on the bed after it’s been washed? I’ve made my own bed a few times before and know it isn’t too difficult, what gives?

Freedom Sticker

The TV in our bedroom is disconnected from the cable to make room for our household computer [from the home office], so I have had time to play around in various websites that I don’t usually have the time to before crashing for the night. I went to Zazzle and made this bumper sticker and button, I leveraged it from one of the radio shows that B listens to so often. I have been saying a lot of prayers lately for our Nation, it is so conflicted and so far from what it was created to be by our founding fathers. It’s nerve racking and makes me anxious just thinking about what could be if certain things do and do not happen in the future. Ugh, I don’t like politics.

Don’t even get me started about my grocery list, it is so long and I think bread and diet coke may be on there about three or four times each; PB & J don’t make themselves. We have been eating out more than normal during lunch, our poor bank account is hating life right now… and fast food. OH, B and I went with our cousins to Benihana for my cousin and my birthday dinner last week. It was so much fun and SO yummy. The best thing from the night? Our tab was $13 and we had a spider roll, teriyaki chicken, chicken fried rice and two beers. WHAT A DEAL – you have to go here and sign up for their birthday club, they send you a $30 voucher to be used during your birthday month!

This past Sunday, B, rode in his first organized bicycle ride - I was so excited the whole week long I could hardly contain myself! One, because it wasn’t on account of one of my races we were getting up before the rooster and two, I finally got to see my muffin, although she was REALLY tired and quiet, it was nice to hang out and share fruit snacks with her when we weren’t driving the 32 mile race course.

Oh, and yes, D did roll on a dead snake or two. It rained today so I told her to go out and take a shower… She listens as well at a flat sheet makes it onto a twin bed. Just sayin’.

Have a wonderful day and please let me know how I can pray for you!

Woohoo – On this day I am one year away from the BIG 3-0. How exciting is that?!

I don’t even really feel like an adult, until I have to make adult decisions like delegating chores, enforcing a quasi-bed time and deciding on water or an adult beverage, because I’m old enough.

Today I will spend the day working at my big girl job, prepping to paint our office, and probably caulking our counter top-to-wall tiles in the kitchen [which has needed to be done for about two years now]. We are finally getting the house in order after Christmas, so I am taking this day as people leave me alone and to my own devices to accomplish these things. Call me a winner, working on my birthday.

Tomorrow we will have a nice [non-frugal] dinner at a delicious restaurant in Houston, one that puts a sparkler candle on your choice of birthday dessert. That’s my kind of place; I love sparkles!

A big ups to the G-man for choosing my parents to host me, I would have been really uncool had I come from any other folks. Happy Birthday to me! And to you! And Many More!

This weekend while B and I were enjoying a nice little game of football on the television the most amazing commercial, since Tim and Pam Tebow, aired. It is hitting the stream as the Focus on the Family – John 3:16 commercial… and I loved every second of it’s 32 second run! I stopped fixing dinner once I heard the sweetest voice recite one of the best verses my mother ever made us learn as children:

For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son to whomever shall believe in him will not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Everlasting life sounds pretty good to me! I love Jesus and love my life following Him as my Lord and Savior.

With the sucess of the commercial, there are many people hitting the Focus on the Family site wanting to find out more. More on the commercial, more on the organization, more on the loving relationship everybody has been graced with since conception… even before conception!

There are a few freebies on the Focus website right now, check them out:

One Pitch to Humility The fascinating story of a professional athlete’s (Frank Pastore) quest for true fulfillment in life

“All Things to All People” An episode from our most popular kids’ radio show, Adventures in Odyssey

“Grace Abounding” A chapter from one of our audio drama programs, “Amazing Grace”

I am so proud that Focus on the Family made such a bold move, again. I would love to pray for you today!

Have a wonderful rest of your weekend and enjoy the day the Lord has made!

Time for another round in our area by Zaycon Foods, have you tried them yet?

They were in town in November and I hit them up for 40 pounds of $1.49 whole chicken breasts and let me tell you, I was shocked, surprised and SUPER happy with my decision to give them a try. The boneless skinless chicken breasts are 100% natural and come from local southern and midwest states; they are cleaned up and placed in several unsealed bags, which once reaching 40# they are placed in one gigantic sealed bag and loaded up in super heavy duty cardboard boxes. The Zaycon team is so efficient, you don’t even have to get out of you car or truck to pick up your purchases, they walk up with your order, put it where you ask and off you go to seal seal seal. I shared the cost of the chicken with my Mom, so the $59 price tag wasn’t too killer with someone to go in half. This year the chicken is $1.69/lb but it is SO worth the price!

Zaycon is coming to my neck of the woods again on my birthday! This time I want to try out the hickory smoked bacon, 30 pounds at $2.97/lb. So, $89 sounds like alot of money, especially for one product, but for great quality bacon that you would need to know your butcher to even get close to the quality and price, this is another great deal. I am looking for somebody to go in 1/2 or even 1/4 with me [e-mail me if interested], there is NO WAY I will allow my family to consume the full 30 pounds of bacon ourselves. Hah!

Check out Zaycon Foods here. I bet there is an event close to you, they are expanding their reach as the word gets out about their products.

This weekend Urban Harvest is hosting their annual fruit tree sale at my Alma Mater, University of Houston [One of the two schools in the nation to win 13 games this season, Go Coogs!] in Robertson Stadium. They will be selling many varieties of fruit trees including pear, fig, avocado, dragon fruit and many more. Funds raised from the sales will be used in future Urban Harvest programs like classes on planting, feeding and pruning fruit trees, and supplying food kitchens with fresh produce. I suggest getting there early for the best selection, if it is anything like the orchid and plumeria shows my parents frequent, it is possible to be a crazy fun time!

Resolution for Women

I haven’t quite got around to making my New Year’s resolutions quite yet… nothing I really feel like changing other than getting a maid to wash my sheets and clean my floors. Hah!

I have a few goals in mind for the year, maybe writing them to you will encourage the follow through:

  • Learn Project Management and jump into a new chapter at my big girl job. Don’t get me wrong, I love my yob [that IS a Y] and the people I work with, but after four years things get a little… eh? Not that I am bored at all, work is quite busy and new technology is always on the move.
  • Save enough $$$ before December to not have to use one ounce of credit for our Ski trip. My sweet girl boasted just last night about how she purchased 4 shirts from one of her favorite stores for less than $50, because two shirts at regular price would have been more than $50. Frugal chick in the making, I love it.
  • Raise funds for my 39.3 mile Avon Walk for Breast Cancer before the event gets here, only four months and $1,080 to go! I would love for you to support me and my team, Band of Bosoms, by donating here. We are also looking for gold [$500] and silver [$250] level sponsors.

Have you ever been in a spot where you had no idea what was going on, like nothing is moving, nothing is happening, you are just living. It is so empty. This is where I have been the past couple of months, wondering what is God’s plan for me in this season? This Christmas, I asked for the book The Resolution for Women by Priscilla Shrier, it was written in partnership with the movie Courageous. It’s time for me to dive deep within and find out about the wonderfully feminine woman, wife, mother, daughter and friend that God has called me to be.

So far I have resolved to be quick to listen and slow to speak, which is not easy for me AT ALL because most of the time I hear but do not listen. It is one of my current character flaws [and I'm working on it], sometimes I go through the day not paying attention to what is important just to get to the next place, next agenda item, next anything that I am not currently involved – it’s a security blanket, a mute choice that I have kept up since I was young.

How about you? Have you read the book? What resolution are you looking forward to coming to fruition this year? I would love to hear from you… I would love to pray for you too! We are going on this journey together, friend! Bumps ahead, hope you have a helmet.
