Every year [that we have lived in our house, at least] we have participated in the National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger food drive benefiting Feeding America. The Feeding America charity is best known for it’s diligence in providing food for those who are food insecure [at or below poverty levels].
Did you know that one in six Americans go hungry every day, sometimes days or a week even?
Did you know that there are over 14 million children served by Feeding America [read: there are over 14 million hungry children in America]?
Did you know that Texas is one of the top 5 states with the highest population of food insecure families?
Last weekend, you should have received a brown paper bag in your Sunday paper advertising and requesting your attention for the food drive. Fill this bag with non-perishable foods and leave it by the mailbox for your mail carrier to pick up on Saturday, May 14.
Do you have more food to donate than what will fit in this bag? No problem, just fill another bag or ten [any bag will do, not just this fancy paper sack] and set them by the mail box – they will get picked up as well!
Don’t have food to donate? That is not a problem either! Go here to read Feeding America’s mission and values and to donate your spare change. Can you believe a mere $25 produces 175 meals, which is enough to feed a family of four for two weeks?! That is amazing!
The H Family likes to take this opportunity to reflect on how blessed we truly are. Filling a bag of groceries is the least we can do to help serve our community and essentially our country.
