I think I finally found the door handles I have been looking for on my buffet remodel!

I said, “Babe, I think these are the ones, maybe someday soon the buffet will move from the garage to the house and you will be able to park in the garage again!”

B: “Don’t tease me…”

HAHAHA! I <3 my husband to the moon and back!

Remember this beautiful piece of art we received for Christmas last year? We are finally getting around to hanging it in it’s final destination.

After we had the piece stretched, and $90 later, we were stumped on what to do about a frame. Custom frames are not cheap, would be extremely heavy and I really do not like the idea of sending out this bad boy for two-three weeks; what if it gets messed up or lost!?

B came up with an idea to make our own frame out of wood and paint it, cheaper and quick… and if it got messed up it would only be our faultadd character. This piece needs something better than snooze fest wood, so I proposed nailing the frame to the wall and hanging fabric behind to add dimension. Eh, OK, it was an idea. We went to Lowe’s last weekend and low and behold, styrofoam polystyrene Architectural Ornament mouldings in a style that match our other frames, it was like having Angel’s from Heaven come down and sing, “Here you are our loves, this is what you want.” So, we came home and B worked out the measurements and we came up with the placement on the wall; it was tough cookies though, he likes the frame centered on the wall but I do not care for looking up at art [one of my pet peeves].

What a sad wall, don’t you think?

The frame measures 48 x 70; so, for snips and giggles, let’s do some funny math, shall we?

48(2)+70(2)= 236 inches

Fanciful frames start at ~$1.06/inch * 236 = $250.16 plus all of the other service fees that go along with creating a custom frame of this size. CRAZY TALK!

How did we do it? We bought 4 pieces of the styrofoam polystyrene mouldings (we only needed 3, but some where along the way a corner got cut a little to short) at $18/each = $72! We used the staple gun to attach the mouldings to the wall; it was so funny because we first shot it with the brad nailer and it went straight through the moulding and really deep into the sheet rock. We painted the mouldings gloss white to match all of the other trim and the grey is left over from our mantle. I added a 1″ satin ribbon ($2.00) around the edge of the stretched canvas to hide the sides, it is glued to the top of the canvas with Liquid Stitch, easy peasy.

Total Cost for the Entire Piece: $164.00

Brown Chicken Eggs

Hypothetically, this might have happened:

Husband: Hey Babe, I’m Home!

Wife: HEY! How was practice? Did all the kids produce and do what they were told?

Husband: Yea, they were alright.

Wife: Cool.

Husband: One of the Dad’s has a daughter who is raising rabbits and chickens for FFA; he gave me and another coach each three dozen brown eggs…

Wife: REALLY!? Sweet! I bet they have tons of bunny babies now!

Husband: Yea, please don’t tell our daughter!

Wife: Oh I won’t, bunny’s are pretty nasty… but kinda cute.

Husband: Yea. But, [dramatic pause]what do you do with brown eggs?

Multi Colored Chicken Eggs

Here’s to your silly Friday! May your weekend be blessed… like we are with brown eggs!

It is with deep regret and profound sadness that I inform you of the passing of Kroger Double/Triple coupons in Houston and surrounding areas. Double/Triple Coupons were a cherished friend, and will be sorely missed.

The bottom line is that Kroger is trying to find a new business strategy with the introduction of e-coupons, gas and prescription rewards and other “valued customer” incentives… Yea, that’s what they say.

If you are distraught over this loss, head on over to the Kroger Couponers Facebook page and voice your opinion, find the address to mail a concerned/complaint letter or receive the phone number to call the corporate headquarters and say, “Hey! What’s up with that?! I thought you loved me?”

It looks like Randall’s will be the only grocery store [in my neck of the woods] to offer double/triple coupons; however, they already limit to only one double/triple per coupon item [ex. Three $0.35 coupons with the same bar code for Pillsbury Toaster Strudel will only triple to $1.05 once, the other two remain $0.35 face value].

It’s a sad day in Frugal Kingdom, but we will hold strong and be victorious! We don’t let the grocery store hold us down!

You can go here to read all of the details from Kroger.

My husband is not very fond of reading books because he gets distracted by the non-movement, so he turns to audio books whenever they are available.

Luckily for him, ChristianAudio.com has a special FREE audio book available for download through the end of each month.

This month’s title is The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom – her memoir of a period of deep hostility and her love for people in which God has made unique and to be cherished. In a time when we are so divided by who we are and what we believe, I think this is a great tale of putting aside differences to help another human in need; because of the begining and the end, we are never any different or better than another person - we are exactly who we are made to be.

Happy Reading Listening Friends!

Today is the Houston Astros 2011 Home Opener – can you take a guess at where I am right now?

This morning started out with delicious chirozo and egg tacos at Laredo Taqueria. This place is a.m.a.zing, if you haven’t been here, you haven’t lived.

Now, we are hanging out, waiting for Fan Fest to start. I am enjoying the company of my favorite second-family members and quite possibly enjoying and adult beverage. HEY, it’s Friday and its 5 o’clock somewhere, right? Don’t judge ;)

Here are a few pics from last year of my fam and me enjoying ourselves.

Happy Friday Peeps and LET’S GO ASTROS!

I parused through Hobby Lobby this week, scouring the shelves for finds that had to come home with me.

I stumbled upon Rustoleum Cobalt Blue and Rustoleum American Accents London Gray spray paint at 75% off, cha-ching! I also found a few great fabric squares to make memo boards for $0.75 and $1.00, cha-ching!

And then I happened upon this:

Fat Napkin Holder

WHY would anybody purchase a napkin holder that says “Fat”? I had to take the picture because I just couldn’t believe it; I had to have proof of the Fat napkin holder. I realize after further investigation that it says “Eat”, but first impressions are the ones that count – and I am NOT buying a Fat napkin holder.

Imagine your friends coming over and seeing it, they would be all, “Hmm, why do you have a napkin holder that says “Fat”? You’re not fat, are you poking fun at us because we are slightly big-boned and like to cook and eat with lots-o butter?” You would have to explain to them that it actually says “Eat”, because you are encouraging healthier living by using a clean paper napkin instead of the sleeve of your shirt or the bottom portion of your jeans… Can you imagine? Embarassing!

Anyways – I heart Hobby Lobby right now because they have a lot of broken and left behind frames for 90% off, I hope to get sweetgum way well stocked before AlternaCraft, May 15 [post/invite to come soon].

Enjoy the rest of your day friends, it is almost Friday!
